Participating in FIRST
A FIRST has innovative programs that help develop self-confidence, knowledge and skills while motivates young people to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering. A FIRST inspires young people, their schools and communities to assess these areas and shows how they can enrich their lives. In Brazil the FIRST operates through two programs princiapais, the FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) and the FLL (FIRST Lego League). Learn a little more about each of the programs!
FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition)
To High School Students | FIRST
Each team can compete for more than a dozen awards, from technical (dirigibilidade, project, design, graphic animation ...) and others involving the team's involvement with the community and other teams.
Universities has pockets of studies for participants. The engineers involved experience again the reasons that led to choose a profession, and the companies in which they work while they help prepare and empower the workforce of the future. The competition shows the students that there are many opportunities in the area of technology, and that the basic concepts of science, mathematics and engineering is really very emocionamentes and interesting.
In 2007 we will have 37 regional events around the world. Will be 33 in the United States, 2 in Canada, 1 Israel and 1 in Brazil. In this season we have 4 new events, one of them is the Brazilian. Each event is a celebration of science and technology, far more than competitive event. All events are classificatórios for the Championship, the final meeting the teams who had better performance in the Regional. A team may participate in more than one event on the weekends different in the month of March.
If it reaches one of the eligibility criteria, in any of the events, have the right to participate in finals, in the USA. This great event has occurred in previous years in Atlanta, GA (Georgia Dome), Houston, TX (Reliant Arena Complex), and Orlando, FL (Epcot Center). In the season of 2006 / 7 will be back in the city of the American state of Georgia.
FLL (FIRST LEGO League)
Created for young people aged between 10 and 15 years | FIRST
FIRST Lego League (FLL) is considered the "little league" of the FIRST Robotics Competition. It is the result of the partnership with the FIRST LEGO Group. The FLL extends the concept of FIRST to inspire and celebrate science and technology for children from 9 to 14 years (10 to 15 years Europe and Brazil), using real-world contexts, using experiments worked by students.
With the help of technology LEGO ® MINDSTORMSTM Robotics Invention System ™, the young participants can build a robot and compete in a friendly event, the style of FIRST, especially designed for the age group. Using the pieces of LEGO together with other elements such as sensors, motors and gears, teams gain experience on principles of engineering and programming of computers and software while controem their own inventions.
Recent challenges were: Challenge of cities, Mission Mars, No Limits (reference to individuals with physical disability) and this year: Ocean Odyssey.
